Building Tools Users Trust: Why We Chose Transparency Over Quick Profits

In the tech world, "growth at all costs" is the standard motto. Capture user data, resell it, show intrusive ads, maximize attention time.

We believe that model is broken.

When we started building FindPrices, we made a conscious decision to prioritize trust over short-term revenue. We wanted to make it easy to compare pricing and find the best deal without compromising user privacy. Here is what that looks like in practice.

1. The Product Is The Product (Not You)

This sounds simple, but it's radical in 2025. Usually, if a product is free, you are the product. Your data is packaged and sold to advertisers.

We took a different path. We monetize through affiliate links. If we help you find a great deal and you buy it, the retailer pays us a small commission.

This aligns our incentives with yours. We only make money if we help you find what you want.

2. Data Minimalism

Most apps ask for every permission possible. "Why does this flashlight app need my contact list?"

We practice data minimalism. We collect only what is absolutely necessary to make the extension work. We don't want your browsing history. We don't want your personal files. We just want to find you prices.

Holding less data isn't just ethical; it's safer. You can't leak data you never collected.

3. Local-First Architecture

Where possible, our code runs on your device, not our servers. When we analyze a product page to find the price, that analysis happens in your browser.

This keeps your browsing private. We don't need to know what you're looking at to help you save money on it.

4. Transparent Business Model

We don't hide how we make money. We tell you upfront about affiliate commissions.

Crucially, our ranking algorithm ignores commissions. If Retailer A is cheapest but pays us nothing, and Retailer B is expensive but pays us huge commissions, we show Retailer A first.

This hurts our revenue in the short term. But it builds the one asset that matters most: your trust that we are actually on your side.

The Long Game

Why do we do this?

Because smart users-people like you-are tired of being exploited. Use of ad blockers, privacy browsers, and VPNs is at an all-time high.

The companies of the future won't be the ones that extract the most data. They will be the ones that earn the most trust.

We're betting our company on that future.
